The ongoing conflict in the Occupied Palestinian Territory— Gaza Strip and West Bank — has led to a devastating humanitarian crisis marked by significant loss of life and widespread disruptions in healthcare. Over the past 300 days, the Gaza Strip has witnessed more than 39,500 fatalities, with a staggering 91,000 injuries reported. In the West Bank, there have been 594 fatalities and more than 5,600 injuries, highlighting the severe impact of violence on local communities.

Urgent action needed: A call to provide critical hygiene supplies to Gaza’s vulnerable

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached an alarming level due to a critical shortage of essential hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, and detergents. Families are struggling to maintain basic hygiene in overcrowded shelters, which increases the risk of communicable diseases like diarrhea, respiratory infections, and skin diseases such as scabies. Children, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable, as they are unable to protect themselves without access to these essential supplies.

Potential Flood Impact on Public Health in Gaza Strip - September 2024

According to the 2023 flood risk assessment and the current population distribution, many IDPs are located near flooding hotspots. Considering the level of devastation caused by the war, other locations may now be at risk of flooding. The Health and WASH Clusters are concerned about the potential public health related to flooding, which include:

- Injuries and drowning: rapid flooding, especially in dip areas where water can easily and quickly
accumulate, reaching dangerous levels.

Between 7 October 2023 and 18 September 2024, more than 41 000 Palestinians were killed and 95 000 were injured, according to MoH in Gaza. More than 10,000 people are estimated to be missing under rubble in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Civil Defence.
