Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is deeply alarmed by the significant escalation of Israeli military and settler violence against Palestinians and intensifying restrictions on freedom of movement across the occupied West Bank.
Coinciding with the implementation of the Gaza temporary ceasefire agreement, these restrictions and violence are effectively confining entire Palestinian communities, cutting them off from essential services, including healthcare, and putting their lives at risk.
Israeli forces have imposed a ‘strict military inspection’ regime with no end date, involving extensive road closures, new military checkpoints and gates, as well as additional checks at existing checkpoints, and raids on Palestinian towns and villages. These measures are not only severely disrupting daily life but also preventing medical teams, including MAP’s mobile clinics, from reaching vulnerable communities.
Aseel Baidoun, MAP’s Senior Advocacy and Campaigns Manager, described the situation: “Even as one door to peace is pushed slightly open another starts to swing closed. Not only are we confined by checkpoints and road closures, but people also face relentless attacks from Israeli settler mobs who act with impunity, backed by the full support of the Israeli army. This is a daily assault on our dignity, safety, and existence. Now that there is a suspension in Israel's war on Palestinians in Gaza, it feels like the Israeli military is starting a war on us in the West Bank."
Israeli forces have invaded the city of Jenin, besieged hospitals, and shot and injured several doctors and nurses. Families are also being forcibly displaced from Jenin refugee camp, leaving them with nowhere safe to go. Staff at MAP’s mobile clinics have faced additional inspections at checkpoints and threats from armed settlers.
Ahd Hasan, a Lab Technician with MAP’s mobile clinic team, shared a harrowing experience: “While we were in the community yesterday, Israeli settlers broke into our meeting, armed .... hoping to provoke a response. The other day, while passing through Beit Eil checkpoint, Israeli soldiers took our IDs and searched our vehicle thoroughly, even though others weren’t checked at all. I believe they did this as soon as they saw MAP’s logo on the vehicle. It felt like unnecessary harassment.”
In addition to the humanitarian and healthcare challenges, the Israeli military is killing Palestinians at an alarming rate. Since the beginning of 2025, Israeli forces have killed 34 Palestinians, including six children. This includes 12 Palestinians killed since the Israeli military’s invasion of Jenin.
Aisha Mansour, MAP’s West Bank Director, said: "Israeli forces’ actions in the West Bank are putting more Palestinian lives at risk, even as the fragile ceasefire in Gaza allows for some respite from the months of violence. These attacks mirror the patterns we saw in Gaza, where health services, healthcare workers and civilian infrastructure were systematically targeted.”
Since 2023, there has been a significant escalation in Israeli military and settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. From January 2023 to December 2024, Israeli forces killed 976 Palestinians and injured 16,104.
MAP calls on the UK Government and the international community to take urgent action. The UK must redouble its efforts to protect Palestinians and outline a clear response to the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion of July 2024 which concluded that Israel’s continued occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal and must be brought to an end as rapidly as possible.
The current ceasefire in Gaza must mark the beginning of a comprehensive effort to secure an immediate end to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza, in accordance with international law. Without these steps, Israeli forces will continue to act with impunity, killing and arbitrarily detaining thousands of Palestinians across the occupied Palestinian territory.
MAP is releasing prepositioned medical supplies to hospitals in areas of the West Bank most affected by attacks, particularly in the north, as well as procuring needed medical supplies.
