1. Various shots, Ahemd at an UNRWA school-turned-shelter
2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahemd, displaced person with disability:
“I am Ahmed Al-Masry, a citizen displaced from the North to the South. In July, I was in an accident that changed my entire life. I lost a leg and suffered shrapnel injuries to my abdomen. This incident changed my whole life and caused me great distress. I faced many difficulties in life, lots of problems with my wife and children as a result of what happened to me. Even using crutches was new to me, I couldn’t go up and down with them. I was in a shelter, living on the fourth floor. I struggled with the crutches going up and down the stairs. I had to do everything by myself. And then there was how people looked at me. I was very distressed by the way they looked at me. It was incredible, their looks were so harsh. Through my sessions with the social worker, my life improved with my wife and children. Things have become calmer for us. All the difficulties I faced have improved, thank God.”
3. Various shots, UNRWA staff and children counting in Arabic
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahemd, displaced person with disability:
“I started going out and moving around, and that has improved my mental state as well. Through the social worker, we coordinated with HI (Humanity and Inclusion). They provided me with physical and occupational therapy. They also taught me how to use crutches—how to walk with them, move around, go up and down, and go places. In the last session, they provided me with a kit containing braces and dressings. My message to all the countries of the world is to stop the war and look at us with mercy. Mercy for the injured, the amputees like us, and the sick who cannot leave their homes. Make things simpler for them and ease their suffering.”
5. Med shot, Ahemd with children

Storyline
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least a quarter of those injured in Gaza have life-changing injuries. Ahmed is one of thousands who have lost a limb in the past 14 months as a result of bombing and shelling.

Together with partners, UNRWA supports people with disabilities by providing assistive devices, mental health and psychosocial services, and rehabilitation.
