By the time of his arrest, Dr. Khaled Alser had become the only general surgeon in Nasser Medical Complex, which previously had a team of 10 surgeons and 10 surgical trainees.
In January 2024, Dr Khaled Alser founded a telemedicine initiative with a group of international physicians to support Palestinian surgical teams in managing gunshot and blast injuries during the genocide. He had co-written an academic paper about this initiative, which was published in the Lancet in August 2024, six months into his arrest.
