Event Date

From Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General as posted on his official X account (previously known as Twitter)

If implemented, it will ban UNRWA from operating in the occupied Palestinian territory.

This is part of broader efforts to erase Palestinian history and identity.

The bill is due to come into effect in just under 4 weeks.

  • Our teams meanwhile are committed to stay and deliver.
  • In Gaza, since the war began, the Agency has become a lifeline for 2 million people.
  • Our health teams provided 6.7 million medical consultations (over 1,600/ day)
  • 730,000 people received mental health and psychosocial support
  • With partners, we vaccinated 560,000 children under the age of 10 against polio
  • Nearly 2 million people received food assistance
  • Hundreds of thousands of displaced people are living in UNRWA shelters.

Since the summer, our teams reached 18,000 children with learning activities.

Before the war, UNRWA provided education to over 300,000 children. Bringing them back to a learning environment, instead of keeping them in the rubble, should be our top priority.

  • In the occupied WestBank, more than 50,000 girls and boys are enrolled in our schools + we provide access to primary health care to half a million Palestine Refugees.

No other UN agency does such work.

UNRWA can be replaced only through a functioning Palestinian state which would address the plight of Palestine Refugees.

That can be reached through political will & diplomacy.

It’s time to switch gears, set the priorities and work towards peace.
