About the Platform

The platform "Documenting the Targeting and Destruction of the Health Sector in the Gaza Strip" presents accurate and detailed information about the Israeli assault on health during the genocidal war. This includes data on the attacks on healthcare facilities and health workers who have been killed, abducted, tortured, and maimed by Israeli forces during the genocide, and relevant statements by international organizations and healthcare institutions. These are complemented by original analysis by researchers and authors covering a range of issues in the targeting of the health sector, through which Israeli occupation forces have created a "war biosphere". Read more

G7 leaders can and must prevent manmade famine

Statement by Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator

(New York, 12 June 2024) As the powerful Group of Seven (G7) meets in Italy tomorrow, conflicts in Sudan, Gaza and beyond are raging out of control. War is pushing millions of people to the brink of starvation. Only technicalities prevent famines from being declared, as people are already dying of hunger.

Humanitarian Situation Update #179 | Gaza Strip

The Humanitarian Situation Update is issued by OCHA Occupied Palestinian Territory three times per week. The Gaza Strip is covered on Mondays and Fridays, and the West Bank is covered on Wednesdays. Due to the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, the next update covering both the West Bank and Gaza Strip will be issued on 19 June.

Notes

The term "non-functional" has been used repeatedly to describe the status health facilities at various points during the genocide; there are many context-dependent interpretations for this term, which mainly means the inability of a particular health facility to provide the service it is supposed to. For example, a main hospital can be considered "non-functional" if it is unable to provide emergency services even if health workers continue to provide inpatient and outpatient services, due to the interruption of a key service.

International Women Day: ‘These women know their strengths’

Noura Arafat, an MSF intercultural mediator, has lived in Nablus in Palestine’s West Bank all her life. She helps women from her community access the mental health support they need. This support is more crucial than ever since the start of the war in Gaza, which is having a devastating impact on access to basic services, such as medical and mental healthcare in the West Bank.

As someone with six siblings and a very tight-knit community network, family life is very important to Noura Arafat. She enjoys socialising, hiking and picnics with friends and family.
