Alaa worked as a volunteer nurse with Doctors without Borders at al-Shifa Medical Complex during the genocide.

Alaa was martyred in an attack on a Doctors without Borders vehicle as its team travelled to their office. The vehicle had coordinated the evacuation civilians south with occupation forces the previous day, only to be turned away from the checkpoint on the day of the strike.
