Event Date

The Red Cross Field Hospital was established and opened on 9 May 2024, and is implemented in coordination with the Palestine Red Crescent Society and supported by Red Cross Societies of Australia, Austria, Canada, China (Hong Kong branch), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

It is located in Rafah area of the Gaza Strip, and it's sole purpose is to provide medical services to civilians affected by the current armed conflict.

Ceasefire

The ceasefire – while not completely devoid of hostilities (116 killed and 490 injured as of week 11 of 2025) – provided much-needed breathing room for the field hospital to focus on medium- to long-term repairs and preparations that go beyond emergency action. While no mass casualty incidents (MCI) took place during the ceasefire, the field hospital continues to receive weapon-wounded patients (e.g. shrapnel, gunshot wounds, burns) – many times from those that venture too close to the IDF-designated buffer zone.

Mass casualty incidents

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is also fully integrated into the mass casualty incident protocols to ensure the most efficient medical response to the incoming patients.

Human resources

There is an increasing number of returning delegates which is facilitating the smooth continuity of the field hospital’s operations.
