“We once lived safely and warmly in our homes, but now we live in tents, exposed to the cold and rain. There are no blankets, no covers to protect us. We have nothing over our heads, and even the tents are torn.”

“It’s freezing and raining. Look at my child—he’s completely soaked. Rainwater is leaking into the tent from everywhere. I’ve placed this tin-box here to collect the water. Tonight, especially, was extremely cold. I woke up to find my child shivering. I warmed him with my hands and hugged him to keep him warm.”

Storyline
In Deir al-Balah central Gaza strip, where internally displaced persons (IDPs) have set up their makeshift tents. Families are working to save their belongings and repair their makeshift tents damaged by strong winds and rainwater. Facing winter for 1.9 million displaced people is a major challenge. UNICEF is providing blankets, tents and warm clothes as winter impacts the Gaza Strip.
Children in Central Gaza as they face harsh winter conditions they gather blankets, scraps of wood, or tree branches to build fires and keep warm.
Eleven years old Yousef said, “We once lived safely and warmly in our homes, but now we live in tents, exposed to the cold and rain. There are no blankets, no covers to protect us. We have nothing over our heads, and even the tents are torn.”
Maha who is also eleven years old said, “We don’t have enough clothing. All I have are summer clothes, like the ones I’m wearing now.”
Maram, a displaced mother said, “It’s freezing and raining. Look at my child—he’s completely soaked. Rainwater is leaking into the tent from everywhere.
