Description (About the Facility)

Beit Hanun Hospital is the only hospital in the city of Beit Hanun in the northern Gaza Strip and is affiliated with the Palestinian Ministry of Health. It was established in 2006 following a large-scale invasion of the city[1], as ambulance crews had difficulty transporting patients to the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabalia, due to the Israeli siege and destruction of the city of Beit Hanun[2]. The hospital serves a population of 350,000 and has a bed capacity of 65 beds.

Effect of siege (2007 - 2023)

In 2010; The Beit Hanoun Hospital administration introduced the microbiology department after acquiring all the required equipment and laboratory materials[3].

In 2012: The hospital inaugurated the reception and emergency department[4].

In 2016: The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, in partnership with the International Red Cross, rehabilitated the hospital[5].

During the 2014 Israeli aggression on Gaza, occupation warplanes targeted the second floor of the Beit Hanun Hospital, causing damage to the pediatric reception building[6], and administrative offices on the third floor. In a subsequent attack during the aggression, occupation tanks fired artillery shells, targeting the hospital with seven direct hits that caused severe damage to the reception, operations, emergency and laboratory departments[7], leading to the hospital complete ceasing work during the ground invasion at the time. About two weeks later, medical staff made efforts to reopen the hospital[8].In the same aggression, occupation forces also targeted the hospital, launching an airstrike on three ambulances, causing injuries among its medical staff[9], including two who were seriously wounded[10].

In January 2018, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced the cessation of health services at the hospital due to the lack of fuel as a result of the blockade and closure policies. In 2019, the hospital stopped providing services for the same reason[11] and stopped performing scheduled operations.

During the May 2021 aggression, occupation forces targeted the vicinity of the hospital with artillery shells, causing damage to the hospital[12].

narrative during this war

On October 9, 2023: Occupation forces bombed the Beit Hanun Hospital several times, leading to its destruction and rendering it completely out of service[13].

Video footage showed scenes of the destruction of the hospital since the beginning of the war[14].
