About the Platform

The platform "Documenting the Targeting and Destruction of the Health Sector in the Gaza Strip" presents accurate and detailed information about the Israeli assault on health during the genocidal war. This includes data on the attacks on healthcare facilities and health workers who have been killed, abducted, tortured, and maimed by Israeli forces during the genocide, and relevant statements by international organizations and healthcare institutions. These are complemented by original analysis by researchers and authors covering a range of issues in the targeting of the health sector, through which Israeli occupation forces have created a "war biosphere". Read more

Hani al-Haytham

Holds the Palestinian board in neurosurgery and specialist in accident and emergency medicine at al-Shifa hospital. Worked for two months during the genocide until the raid on al-Shifa hospital when he was forced to evacuate. In 2009, he was part of the team that carried out the first brain tumor removal in the Gaza Strip.

Martyred alongside members of his family

Dr. Hani al-Haytham was martyred alongside his wife Dr. Samira al-Ghafari and their children Shireen, Tia, Sameer, Wafaa and Sara, as a result of an Israeli airstrike on a residential building. Dr. Haytham had managed to escape al-Shifa hospital without being abducted, only to be targeted in his home with his family.

She was martyred alongside her mother in an airstrike on their neighbors' home in Nuseirat camp in the final hour before the start of the ceasefire.

Member in the legislative council and a previous director general in the ministry of health. He worked as a generalist in Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis. Served as head of the hematology and oncology department at al-Shifa hospital until 1993, laboratory director for the Gaza Strip 1986-1991, director of Nasser hospital 1991-1993, director general for health 1993-1994, and director of the national center for cancer surveillance.

Dr. Khamees al-Najjar, member of the legislative council, was martyred alongside his wife, two of his children, and several of his grandchildren as a result of an occupation airstrike on his home in Khan Yunis.

Doctor, injured, prisoner, martyr: Adnan Ahmad Atieh al-Bursh

Al-Bursh was martyred in Ofer Prison on April 19, 2024 after being subjected to severe torture, killing him. His body is still being held.
