About the Platform

The platform "Documenting the Targeting and Destruction of the Health Sector in the Gaza Strip" presents accurate and detailed information about the Israeli assault on health during the genocidal war. This includes data on the attacks on healthcare facilities and health workers who have been killed, abducted, tortured, and maimed by Israeli forces during the genocide, and relevant statements by international organizations and healthcare institutions. These are complemented by original analysis by researchers and authors covering a range of issues in the targeting of the health sector, through which Israeli occupation forces have created a "war biosphere". Read more

Hussam Abu Safiya

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is a Palestinian consultant pediatric doctor. He is currently the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. He is one of the prominent figures in the health sector in the Gaza Strip, having led health workers to provide services to the Gazan population. He was born in Jabalia camp in Gaza City to a family that was exiled from the town of Hamama during the 1948 Nakba. He obtained Palestinian Board certification in pediatric and neonatal medicine.

Arrest following the evacuation of Kamal Adwan Hospital

Occupation forces arrested Dr. Abu Safiya after evacuating Kamal Adwan Hospital, forcing him to walk amid the rubble of the destroyed hospital towards an occupation tank.

Injury to the thigh

Dr. Abu Safiya suffered a shrapnel injury to his thigh that tore several blood vessels, after a "Quadcopter" drone threw a bomb inside the hospital during the siege imposed by occupation forces on Kamal Adwan Hospital. Dr. Abu Safiya continued leading the hospital after his treatment.

Doctor, injured, prisoner, martyr: Adnan Ahmad Atieh al-Bursh

Al-Bursh was martyred in Ofer Prison on April 19, 2024 after being subjected to severe torture, killing him. His body is still being held.
