Health Workers

In these pages, we commemorate and honor those who devoted and eventually gave their lives in service of others. During the ongoing genocidal war, over 500 Palestinian health workers have been killed and over 300 have been abducted, each of whom had a distinguished presence and remarkable history.

We relied primarily on the list of martyrs issued regularly by the Palestinian Ministry of Health based on its primary data. This list was corroborated and expanded using the primary data collection conducted and published by "Healthcare Workers Watch", a group of volunteer Palestinian health workers who monitor and publish attacks on health in Palestine. A large part of the personal photographs we use of health workers were also collected and published by Healthcare Workers Watch. For abducted and disappeared health workers, we relied primarily on the lists collected and published by Healthcare Workers Watch, which included the names and professions of these health workers. We gathered further details on health workers' professional history and the circumstances surrounding their targeting from statements and reports by the Ministry of Health and other organizations, as well as news reports, verified social media accounts, and firsthand information from colleagues and relatives of the health workers. Some of these files are still undergoing translation into English.

When the circumstances allow, we will use field research to gather information about victims who we did not find sufficient information about using secondary sources.

Oraib Azmi al-Rayyes Dentist :

Oraib al-Rayyes was martyred alongside her parents, her sister Azza and her three children, and her brother Dr. Maysara al-Rayyes in a strike on their home. The surviving siblings from their first strike were martyred as a result of another strike on the home the next day, as they searched through the rubble for the bodies of their family members.

Dr. Nuha Daghmash was martyred alongside her sister Dr. Muna Daghmash and 10 other family members
Muna Daghmash Dentist :

Dr. Muna Daghmash was martyred alongside her sister Dr. Nuha Daghmas and 10 other family members.
Suleiman Jamil Suleiman Tarazi Dentist Orthodontics :

Dr. Suleiman Tarazi was martyred in a strike on the Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius, which hosted internally displaced people. His wife and youngest son Jad were injured in the attack.

Ma'moun Azou Affaneh Dentist Ranked first in the dental licensing exam in Abu Dhabi. Opened a private clinic in January 2023. Previously worked as a dentist in the Ministry of Health. :

Dr. Ma'moun Affaneh was martyred alongside his father Dr. Azou Affaneh, his mother Samira, his siblings Dr. Mohammed, Mou'zer and Dr. Nidaa and her daughter, as a result of an attack on Maghazi camp.
Mohammed Azou Affaneh Dentist :

Dr. Mohammed Affaneh was martyred alongside his father Dr. Azou Affaneh, his mother Samira, his three siblings, and his niece as a result of an attack on Maghazi camp.
Tasneem Abdel Nabi Dentist :

Dr. Tasneem was killed in a strike on their home alongside her parents and five of her siblings. The family remained under the rubble after the house was bombed.

Dr. Aseel was killed in a massacre that killed over 140 people, including her father Dr. Sufian Tayeh, her mother Abeer, and her siblings

Dr. Khalil Abu Zaher was martyred alongside three of his cousins
Samah Naeem Dentist Dr. Samah Naeem worked in the Specialist Arab Center for cosmetic dentistry. She held a diploma in advanced dental implants, which is certified by the Oxford Academy of Medical Sciences. :

Dr. Samah Naeem was martyred alongside six of her family members in an attack on the home they had fled to in Deir al-Balah.
Shayma Naeem Dentist Shayma had ranked first in her university cohort with an average of 94.6%. She worked in the Specialist Arab Center for cosmetic dentistry since 2019 and as a lecturer in Palestine University since 2020. :

Dr. Shayma was martyred alongside her son, two sisters, and other members of her family as a result of a strike on a home they had fled to
Mohammed Abu Rujeila Dentist Volunteer dentist in Nasser medical complex. Occupation forces destroyed his clinic two weeks before he was martyred. :

Dr. Mohammed Abu Rujeila was martyred in Bani Suheila as he went to his clinic to fetch some medical supplies. His body was found five days after he was killed.
Abdelrahman al-Ghareez Dentist Dr. Abdelrahman al-Ghareez opened his own private clinic in March 2023. :

Dr. Abdelrahman al-Ghareez was martyred alongside his wife and two children in a strike on their home in Nuseirat camp.

Yehia Abdeljawad Jouda Nurse He worked as a lecturer in al-Quds Open University in 2003, after earning a Master's in public health from Al-Najah National University. He also worked as an optometrist and director of a private optometry center in the middle of the Gaza Strip after earning a second bachelor's degree from the Islamic University in 2011.

Dr. Yehia Jouda was martyred alongside his children, Majd, Mouaz, Yehia, and Mayar as a result of a direct strike on their home. The only survivor was his eldest son Mohammed.
Bassam Mohammed Omar Shaheen Nurse Held a PhD in nursing from the University of Al-Butana in Sudan in 2021. Worked as a vice-dean for graduate studies at al-Azhar University – Gaza. :

After surviving two direct strikes where he was staying with his family in Muhandiseen and Salhi towers in Gaza City, during which he sustained moderate injuries, Dr. Bassam was martyred alongside his family in a strike on the third place they had been displaced to.
Luai Ramzi Mohammed Al-Zuheiri Nurse Nursing student :

Martyr Louay Ramzi Mohammed Al-Zuhairi,a nursing student from North Gaza Province was killed on 2023-10-21 in Jabalia Refugee Camp / North Gaza due to targeting by the occupation forces.
Mo'men Akram Saber Arab Nurse Student in the fourth year of the Nursing College. :

Martyr Mo'men Arab, a fourth-year student, was martyred on November 4, 2023.

Mohammed Saber Qashqash Nurse Volunteered during the genocide in the northern Gaza Strip hospitals until his martyrdom Al-Shifa Medical Complex :

Mohammed Qashqash was martyred as a result of a strike on his home in Beit Lahya in the northern Gaza Strip, alongside dozens of others who had sought refuge there.

Martyred alongside 15 members of her family on an attack on her relatives' home
Reeda Waleed Jihad al-Masri Nurse Worked as a midwife in Beit Hanoun al-Shawa clinic in the northern Gaza Strip. Volunteered in Kamal Adwan Hospital during the genocide Kamal Adwan Hospital :

Martyred alongside her family in an attack on their home in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip.
Hasan Hamdi Hasan al-Hinawi Nurse :

Martyred alongside his father, his children, and a large number of his family members in a strike in northern Gaza City
Zaynab Ameen Fahmi al-Sharafi Nurse :

Nurse Zaynab al-Sharafi was martyred alongside her five children Hala, Aya, Noor, Leen and Mohammed in the Hassouneh family massacre in Rafah.

Martyred alongside his children, grandchildren and a large number of his family members in the Malaka family masscare
Suheir Salam Nasr Jbara Nurse Nurse in the obstetrics and gynaecology department Emirates Crescent Hospital :

Nurse Suheir Jbara was martyred alongside her children Athal, Arwa and Alma, her husband, and her family after leaving a hospital shift and returning home, to the Hashash household to which they had fled. Only for it to be attacked upon her arrival.

Dr. Sumayya Tamraz was martyred as a result of a drone attack targeting her home in the Gaza Strip. 
Inas Mahmoud Mohammed al-Zein Nurse Al-Nasr Children's Hospital :

She was martyred on October 23, 2023. Her body remained under the rubble until the next day, October 24, when she was buried alongside 8 members of her family.

Rawan Abu Zubeida was martyred alongside her brother and sister following an attack on their relatives' house in al-Bureij camp where they sought refuge.

Fatima Shalouf was martyred alongside all her family members, consisting of thirteen people, including her brother Ahmed Shalouf, as a result of targeting their home in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Mahdi Ahmad Shalouf Nurse Worked as a nurse in the anaesthesia and resuscitation department. :

Mahdi Shalouf was martyred along with all his family members, consisting of thirteen people, including his sister, Fatima Shalouf, as a result of targeting their home in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Subha al-Sharafi Nurse Retired nurse. :

Subha Al-Sharafi was martyred along with her husband, five sons, their wives, grandchildren, and a large number of her family members in a massacre that claimed the lives of more than forty martyrs when their home in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip was targeted.

Saja Daghmash Nurse :

Saja Daghmash was martyred along with her mother, father, brother, six sisters and a number of their children following a strike on their home in Gaza City.
Amira al-Ruqab Nurse :

Amira al-Ruqab was martyred after being targeted by a missile from a reconnaissance plane in her home in Deir al-Balah.

He was martyred alongside his children and other members of his family in an attack on their home in Rafah City in the southern Gaza Strip. The strike also injured his wife, nurse Hiba al-Far'.

Maryam Al-Bayouk was martyred following a strike on her house in Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip.

Mustafa al-Jaloos was martyred at the Ma'an School shelter center in Khan Yunis.
