About the Platform

The platform "Documenting the Targeting and Destruction of the Health Sector in the Gaza Strip" presents accurate and detailed information about the Israeli assault on health during the genocidal war. This includes data on the attacks on healthcare facilities and health workers who have been killed, abducted, tortured, and maimed by Israeli forces during the genocide, and relevant statements by international organizations and healthcare institutions. These are complemented by original analysis by researchers and authors covering a range of issues in the targeting of the health sector, through which Israeli occupation forces have created a "war biosphere". Read more

Bombardment of his house and his martyrdom alongside his family

Dr. Mahmoud and his entire family were martyred as a result of a direct strike on their home in Rafah, to which his children and their families were displaced. Dr. Mahmoud was martyred alongside his wife Raja' (Um Tamer), his son Dr. Tamer al-Khayyat with his wife Dr. Razan and their daughter Rose, his son Basel al-Khayyat with his wife Hadeel and their children Elyaa, Seleen, Mahmoud and 2-month-old Mohammed, and his daughter Hiba al-Khayyat with her four children Omar, Benan, Jenan, and Elyaa. They had fled to their grandfather's house in search of safety.

Dr. Tamer and his entire family were martyred as a result of a direct strike to their house in Rafah, after being displaced to the house of his father, Dr. Mahmoud al-Khayyat. Dr. Mahmoud's infant daughter was the only survivor from the strike that killed the 18 other members of her family who were in the house.

He was martyred alongside Dr. Ziad al-Tatari and Dr. Ahmad al-Sahar as a result of a direct airstrike targeting the third and fourth floors of al-Awda hospital where they were working as part of a Doctors Without Borders team.

Dr. Ziad was martyred alongside Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujeila and Dr. Ahmad al-Sahar as a result of a direct strike on the third and fourth floors of al-Awda hospitals while they were working as part of a Doctors Without Borders team.

Bombing of his home and his martyrdom alongside his family

He was martyred alongside his father, father-in-law and brother-in-law as a result of a strike of his in-laws' house, where he, his two children and his pregnant wife had fled. The house was bombed shortly after he arrived home after spending several consecutive days in al-Shifa hospital where he was working during the genocide, after refusing to evacuate from the north. He was one of few doctors who stayed in al-Shifa following the evacuate orders.
