His house was targeted upon his return to visit his family after seven consecutive days of work in al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Dr. Midhat was martyred alongside his entire family in their house in Tel al-Hawa neighborhood.

Dr. Mahmoud and his entire family were martyred as a result of a direct strike on their home in Rafah, to which his children and their families were displaced. Dr. Mahmoud was martyred alongside his wife Raja' (Um Tamer), his son Dr. Tamer al-Khayyat with his wife Dr. Razan and their daughter Rose, his son Basel al-Khayyat with his wife Hadeel and their children Elyaa, Seleen, Mahmoud and 2-month-old Mohammed, and his daughter Hiba al-Khayyat with her four children Omar, Benan, Jenan, and Elyaa. They had fled to their grandfather's house in search of safety. The only survivor of the strike that killed 18 members of her family was Dr. Tamer's infant daughter Miral.

استشهد د.محمود وكامل عائلته في إثر استهداف مباشر لمنزلهم في رفح حيث نزح أولاده وبناته وذووهم. استشهد الدكتور محمود وزوجته رجاء (أم تامر)، وابنه الدكتور تامر الخياط وزوجته الدكتورة رزان وابنتهما روز، وابنه المهندس باسل الخياط وزوجته هديل وأطفالهما إيليا وسيلين ومحمود والرضيع محمد ذو الشهرين، وابنته هبة محمود الخياط وأطفالها الأربعة عمر وبنان وجنان وإيليا، والذين قدموا إلى بيت جدهم وجدتهم بحثا عن الأمان. نجت من القصف ابنة الدكتور محمود الرضيعة وحيدةً بعد أن استشهد 18 فرداً من عائلتها.

استشهد إثر إصابة بالغة نتيجة قصف منزل شقيقته في خانيونس جنوب القطاع، وكان ذلك بعد أن مكث لثلاثة أيام في العناية المركزة. استشهدت كل من أخته وبناتها الثلاثة وحفيدتها نتيجةً لنفس الغارة.

استشهد إثر إصابة بالغة نتيجة قصف منزل شقيقته في خانيونس جنوب القطاع، وكان ذلك بعد أن مكث لثلاثة أيام في العناية المركزة. استشهدت كل من أخته وبناتها الثلاثة وحفيدتها نتيجةً لنفس الغارة.
