She was martyred alongside her father Professor Ibrahim Hamed al-Astal, dean of the College of Education at the Islamic University – south campus, her sister Dr. Afnan al-Astal, and her mother Nadia Yassin al-Astal as a result of an airstrike on their home in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military ordered the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, Ahmad al-Kahlout, to evacuate the hospital.
